A Sepical Family Tradition: Christmas Sugar Cookies

Every year, since I can remember, I've made these sugar cookies at Christmas time. My sons and I have so many memories with these sugar cookies. My boys liked them so much when they were little, I made them their own sugar cookie Christmas tree. Their sugar cookie Christmas tree had individually wrapped sugar cookies hung all over the tree. It really was special. Each year, we would bake and decorate them together. Well Bryan baked and Hoy taste tested. When my Bryan got older, he started making them with his family. Pictured below, is Bryan when he was eight years old, making Christmas sugar cookies. This photo had become so popular within our family his wife recaptured it for me when he was forty. That's why I love cooking. There are so many memories around the food we cook and enjoy with our loved ones. Precious memories I cherish and keep close inside my heart.  Let's get to recipe, before I have to get the tissue out.  What You Need: 3 Cup...

Cheese & Bacon Flavored Dog Treats

Even our babies live extravagantly on the Morgan Family Farm. I home make their treats for them and they love me so.  Did I mention, these treats have been tasted by our cowboy friend, while visiting the farm? He says they're tasty. We shared one of these dog treats with his dog named 'Girl Dog', but not before he'd popped one in his mouth. "Wow! How was it?", I asked. "I don't feed my dogs anything I don't eat." he seriously replied. It's always a good time on the farm.

Fall Pumpkin Cupcakes

It's fall at the Morgan Family Farm. Lots of preparations going on for the, soon approaching, winter months. My Billy is busy preparing the food plots for the deer and cattle. The hunters are coming. In-between baking and decorating, I've been helping My Billy herd the cattle up to the front of the farm. Speaking of cattle, I would like to introduce to you our newest member of the Morgan Family Farm. Without further ado.....Boomerang. Boomerang is a May Bull calf and has tons of promise, especially when you consider that he combines two of the hottest individuals in the Red Angus breed in his pedigree with Signature and Lois 7U.  He will be roaming with the ladies in early spring.  Go Boomerang, also know as Boomer. We might be Sooner fans. Well that was a nice sidetrack, back to the recipe. Here's How: Ingredients 1 1/2 cup all purpose flour 1 1/2 t. pumpkin pie spice 1/2 t. cinnamon 1 t. baking powder 1/2 t. baking soda 1/4 t. salt 1 cup pur...

Winter Apple Tart

We've been working on these apple tarts for six years. Well, that's how long ago it was when 'My Billy' planted his orchard on the Morgan  Family Farm. There is something special about growing your own apples for your recipes. Of course, you can buy them to make this recipe, just as well.  Pictured is 'My Billy' in his orchard. I know the tender loving care he's put into the apple trees and you can taste it in my Winter Apple Tarts. Many times, if I can't find him, I know to go and look for him in the orchard.  Apple trees aren't the only trees growing in his orchard. His apples: Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Pink Lady, Wolf River and Wine Sap. Pecans: Kiowa and Pawnee. Peaches: Red Haven and Alberta. Pears: Bradford, Bartlett, Braeburn, and apricots. A total of eighteen trees, occupy the entrance of the Morgan Family Farm. Winter Apple Tart Ingredients: For the Pastry 2 cups Flour 1/2 t. Kosher Salt 1 T. Sugar 1 1/2 Sticks (12ta...

Best Chicken Noodle Soup

When I think of comfort food, this is it. A hot bowl of Chicken Noodle Soup, on a cold day, to warm up your insides. Not to mention, no childhood was complete without mom making a bowl of it for you when you were sick.  If you've ever purchased a can of soup, don't feel bad honey. We've all been there. I used to get my soup from a can, until I learned how easy and great tasting homemade soup is.  What makes this so easy is, it's done in three parts. All parts freeze, making the finished product one you can pull out of the freezer and warmup on the stove in a matter of minutes.  Part One:  Homemade Noodles (make a bunch and freeze) Part Two:  Easy Homemade Chicken Stock (make a bunch and freeze) Part Three: Making the Soup What You'll Need 2 Prepared Roasted Chicken Breast (shredded or diced) 2 Quarts  Chicken Stock 1 Cup Medium Diced Celery (2 large stalks) 1 Cup Medium - Diced Carrots (about 3 carrots) 2 Cups  Noodles (i...

Easy Homemade Chicken Stock

Chicken noodle soup, chicken and dumplings, chicken pot pie: these are just a few things I use my homemade chicken stock in.  Making your own stalk is easier than you think, it’s healthier, bolder and making your own saves you a little in the pocket book. I usually make a big batch in the fall and freeze for the coming colder weather. Whenever, I have a recipe that calls for chicken stalk, I defrost and use. What You'll Need: 5 lbs. Chicken Leg Quarters 3 Large Yellow Onions (unpeeled & quartered) 6 Carrots (unpeeled & halved) 4 Celery Stalks (with leaves, cut into thirds 1 Large Head of Garlic (unpeeled cut in half crossways) 2 T. Kosher Salt 2 t. Black Whole Peppercorns 8 Quarts of Water 2 T. Parsley Flakes 1 T. Thyme Leaves 2 t. Dill Weed Ground Directions: Put parsley, thyme and dill weed into cheese cloth and tie.
